Google Maps is one of the better
online map applications. Undoubtedly, this is due to the
clarity and quality offered when looking through the
maps. The maps are updated and very easy to read and
follow. Additionally, as is true with just about
anything related to Google, searching, looking through,
and navigating the map application in Google Maps are
all part of a very simple, straight forward process that
truly brings this application to a state where it can be
used by even the most novice of internet users.
Google Maps are also very
useful when plotting routes. This is due to a few main
reasons, the first being the ability to switch between
satellite and standard map views. While the standard map
is always good, the ability to switch into a 3D
satellite view (something unique to Google Maps) truly
helps to bring the route into better context and allows
the driver to see exactly the route they will be taking.
The other main reason is a mixture of how Google clearly
differentiates between different roads, highways, etc,
and marks with an easy to see pin whenever there will be
an alteration in the course, a change of highways, etc.
As can easily be seen, Google offers one of the
premier map applications. GoogleMaps has a combination
of quality and ease of use that makes it an easy
recommendation for everyone. Google Maps also has
a feature called "Street View" This allows users to
follow along major streets as if they were actually
there. While only in major US cities, Google Maps has
been expanding this cool feature to more and more
cities, maybe covering all of the US eventually.
UPDATE: A new feature allows you to change the route
to and from your destination in order to avoid certain
areas, or to manually choose a modified path. Just click
and drag anywhere along the route, and let the mouse go
to change your route.
